I brought CityWorld back – a Minecraft mod that builds entire cities
Years ago on Bukkit servers, one of the plugins I always reached for was CityWorld – point it at a fresh world and it filled the ground with a working city: named streets, furnished buildings, farms, mines, sewers, all of it generated straight from the seed. When my Bukkit-era projects moved on, CityWorld quietly stopped working with them. I finally sat down and fixed that: CityWorld ReForged, a full NeoForge port for modern Minecraft. Same generator brain, same GPL-3 licence, now a world type you can pick straight from the create-world screen.

Thirteen ways to build a city
Pick Modern for the default full-fat experience – tall builds, lush caves, employed villagers, working shop trades – or go faithful with the original 1.8-era Classic look. Past that it gets interesting: Apocalypse lets nature and decay slowly reclaim a Modern city (with a rare hidden Fallout-style vault behind a blast door, if you look hard enough), Metro packs it wall-to-wall, Floating hangs whole neighbourhoods in the air, and Astral drops the whole thing onto alien mushroom terrain. Thirteen styles in total, each its own world type or a click away on the Customize screen.

What you get
- Roads and infrastructure – named streets with real street signs, sidewalks, roundabouts, bridges, and tunnels through mountains.
- Buildings, furnished inside – houses through highrises, with the right job-site block for their trade and a hanging sign out front.
- Districts – civic centres, factories and warehouses, farms with animals, and parks with zoos and glass biodomes.
- Underground – mine networks, wet sewers, bunkers and basements, with loot and mob spawners.
- Set-pieces – castles, radio towers, oil platforms and flying saucers, findable with
/cityfind. - Around 100 tunable settings via a per-world datapack, plus support for your own custom schematics.
It has been battle-tested across 135 worlds and 3.2 million generated chunks so far – more ground than New York City covers.
Get it
CityWorld ReForged needs Minecraft 1.21.11 and NeoForge 21.11.42, and it is free and open source under GPL-3.0. The original CityWorld Bukkit plugin was written by DaddyChurchill, who knows about this port and has approved it – this NeoForge build continues under GPL-3 as a derivative work.
There is a full write-up, screenshots, the complete command reference and the settings guide on the CityWorld ReForged project page. Download it from CurseForge, and the source is on GitHub.
Pick it as your world type and go exploring – and if you hit a bug or find something worth adding, the repo is the place to shout.
